Dexa 0.2 Injection

The Synthetic Glucocorticoid with Rapid Therapeutic Action

Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate 2.64 g/L equalling Dexamethasone 2g/L

Action

Dexamethasone sodium phosphate is a water soluble salt that produces rapid therapeutic effect. Being a very active synthetic glucocorticoid it has a neoglucogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and anti-phlogistic effect with minimal mineralocorticoid activity. Emergency cases respond well to this soluble form with its rapid action.

Indications

Contraindications
Relative contra-indications include diabetes, osteoporosis and fractures, heart and renal insufficiency, and pregnancy.

Dosage and Administration

Intravenous or intramuscular use;

Horses & cattle

5 -15 mI (10-30 mg dexanlethasone)

Foals & calves

1 -2.5 mI (2 -5 mg dexamethasone)

Sheep, goats & pigs

1 -2.5 mL (2 -5 mg dexanlethasone)

Dogs

0.12 -1 ml (0.25 -2 mg dexamethasone)

Cats

0.12 -0.25 mL (0.25 -0.5 mg dexamethasone)

Intra- or peri-articular injection;

Large animals

1-10 ml (2 -20 mg dexamethasone)

Small animals

0.12 -2.5 ml (0.25 -5 mg dexanlethasone)

Presentation
50 mL amber multi-dose vial.

Withholding time
 

Milk

Cows 24 hours (2 milkings). Sheep and Goats 48 hours (4 milkings)

Meat

Cattle 1 day, Sheep, Goats, Horses and Pigs 2 days

Precautions
After long treatment therapy should be gradually withdrawn, and not stopped suddenly.

Side effects as with corticosteroid therapy long term use may produce atrophy of the adrenal cortex, and decreased natural adrenocorticoid hormone production.
