Pot of Brotrimsulp. Sulphadimidine 430mg/g, trimethoprim 86mg/g & bromhexine HCl 8.6mg/g for horses.

Sulphadimidine 430mg/g, trimethoprim 86mg/g and bromhexine HCl 8.6mg/g in a free-flowing powder.

Action:
Sulphadimidine interferes with the synthesis of folic acid in the folic-folinic acid systems of micro-organisms, while trimethoprim affects the metabolism of cells by disrupting the same metabolic pathway. Both these actions affect the cells of micro-organisms to a greater extent than mammalian cells. When combined, they provide a greatly enhanced level of activity against a wide variety of Gram+ve and Gram-ve organisms. Bromhexine HCl has a mucolytic effect.

Indication:
Treatment of respiratory infections in horses caused by sulphadimidine-susceptible organisms and where a mucolytic effect is desired.

Contraindication:
Animals suffering from acute renal failure, severe jaundice or any anaemia.

Toxicity:
Blood disorders may occasionally occur during prolonged treatment.

DOSAGE:
For oral use only. Administer 1 large level scoop/200kg b.w. twice daily. Duration of treatment is 5 days, or as indicated by symptoms. Give on dampened food or mixed with honey or molasses. A large level scoop (provided) contains 5g sulphadimidine, 1g trimethoprim and 100mg bromhexine HCl, which is a twice-daily dose for a 200kg animal. The small scoop contains one quarter of this amount.
