Phoenix Xylaket 15/5

Xylazine base (as HCl) 150mg/mL and ketamine HCl 50mg/mL in an aqueous solution for injection.

Action:
Xylazine is a centrally acting alpha-2 adrenergic agonist with analgesic, sedative and muscle-relaxant properties. Ketamine induces anaesthesia by functional disruption (dissociation) of the CNS through marked CNS stimulation or induction of a cataleptoid state. The combination of xylazine and ketamine provides a satisfactory level of anaesthesia that is not possible when either agent is used as a sole agent.

Indication:
Immobilisation, sedation, anaesthesia and analgesia of deer. The low dosage volume makes the product particularly practical for use with dart guns.

Contraindication:
Hepatic or renal dysfunction, cardiac insufficiency, respiratory insufficiency or depression and late pregnancy.

Toxicity/Overdose/Antidote:
Doses of 5–10x those recommended may induce life-threatening cardiac and respiratory depression. Yohimbine or tolazoline are effective reversing agents.

DOSAGE:
For i/v or i/m injection. The dose depends on the level of immobilisation or sedation required.

DEER: To induce recumbency and immobilisation the general recommendation is 0.6–1.0mL/100kg i/m (0.9–1.5mg xylazine/kg, 0.3–0.5mg ketamine/kg ). This dose range may be reduced by up to 50% when used i/v. Product has been safely and effectively administered to deer at a dose rate of 1.25mL/100kg i/m and 1.1mL/100kg i/v. Fallow Deer may require the above doses to be doubled. Maintain sternal recumbency to avoid ruminal distension, atony and regurgitation.

Side Effects:
None observed.

Special Precautions:
Keep out of reach of children. Avoid self-injection.

Withholding Times:
MEAT: 5 days.

Human First Aid, Symptoms Of Poisoning:
If swallowed, DO NOT induce vomiting. For advice, contact a doctor or the National Poisons Centre (0800 POISON or 0800 764 766) immediately. If skin contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly. Seek medical advice. Tolazoline or yohimbine are reversing agents.
